Bond premiere raises £6,000 for heroes
Bedford movie fans were among the first in the country to see the latest James Bond film “Quantum of Solace” thanks to the Rotary Club of Bedford Park.

An exclusive “Bond and Bubbles” premiere screening at Bedford’s Cineworld arranged by the Club raised £6,000 for the charity Help for Heroes, which supports servicemen and women injured in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Before the curtain went up, Rotary wives and friends served glasses of bubbly and sold raffle tickets to the audience.  Prizes included a night plus dinner for a lucky couple at Home House (an exclusive private members club in London), a year’s pass to Cineworld, a full set of Bond DVDs and a luxury food hamper.

Posing outside the cinema with an Aston Martin and a Martini, Brendan McNulty, President of the Rotary Club of Bedford Park, said that members were also planning to send Christmas presents to British troops serving overseas.

Help for Heroes is also supported  by Princes William and Harry who were present at the Royal World Premiere in Leicester Square two nights before the Bedford screening. The No 1 song ‘Hero’ from X Factor is dedicated to the charity.
